My Story

Jesse Steiger, taking over from Steamy Buddha Cafe to keep the community well-fed and nourished.

Jesse started his food journey in Boston back in the 1990s, and worked with the Female Chef Collaboration just as women were starting out into the food industry and by humble luck ( the stars were aligned) worked with Ana Sortun and Ruth Ann Adams.

β€œAna Sortun turned me on to the Heirloom Tomatoes and when I moved to Vermont I started growing my own vegetables for our restaurant. I started a food drop in the Deerfield Valley in Southern Vermont, aggregating food from farms to restaurants before I moved to Maine, working with UVM and local food co-ops.

Moving to Maine was about looking for community. And eventually I found it here at the Steamy Buddha with the yoga , the food, the people and culture. Which has now culminated to me opening the Conscious Cafe.

I believe in the power of the heart. Kindness. Simplicity. Sincerity. Community and the space to acheive all this. β€œ
